Letter from Mr. Culp
August 2008
It’s been a year of such upheaval and uncertainty in our industry that it’s been hard to predict
what’s going to happen next. As of this writing I still have no idea whether or not SAG will be
going on strike sometime in the near future. So it’s made it a little difficult to write
updates about what is coming up. And then you and the others out there are so quick to find out
something I’ve just done, I barely have a chance to write after I’ve finished the job! Believe
me I really do appreciate that you all are still interested in what I’m doing, even past JAG and
Desperate Housewives. It’s been very gratifying and I value it highly. I hope I can continue to earn
your interest and give you performances you can enjoy.
No doubt you know that I was re-united with David James Elliott on the set of “IMPACT”, a sci-fi
mini series coming out (I think) this winter. (I’m not sure yet which network) I really
enjoyed working with him again, he was a delight. The whole experience was really great. I got
to be the President of the United States in this one, and I must say it’s FUN to be President.
I’ve been doing a recurring role in “Saving Grace”, though so far the character has made
brief appearances. I’ll be filming at least one more episode starting mid-August, but I have
not seen the script yet.
I also just finished guest staring in an episode of “The Cleaner”, a new series on A&E starting
Benjamin Bratt. Kelly Lynch (who is just wonderful!) and I play troubled parents of a troubled
teen. I was quite pleased with how it went and am looking forward to seeing it.
I’ve also committed to doing another play at ACT in San Francisco, which will open the end of
October and run through Nov (it closes right before Thanksgiving). It’s a new play by Jane
Andersen called “The Quality of Life”, it also starts Laurie Metcalf and JoBeth Williams.
It promises to be as challenging as “Blackbird”, the last play I did there, although the
character could not be more different.
And you can see me in a cameo appearance on the pilot of “The Mentalist” on CBS, which will air
in September. This was done art the request of David Natter, who directed and produced the
pilot of “Traveler”. Anytime David calls, I’ll come running if I am available. I love
working with him. But it really is just a cameo role.
So I just wanted to take a moment and say hello. I hope all is well with you and will try not to
let so much time go by before I write again.
All the best
Steven
