Letter from Mr. Culp
May 2005
"Dear Friends,
I have just finished reading "Will in the World", and it is a fascinating read.
I'd recommend it to anyone, even those who are not particularly "well-versed" in
Shakespeare. Taken simply as a description of a particular time in history, it
is very compelling, and not without relevance to our own times. Thank you so
much for this wonderful gift.
I have recently received a packet of mail that is filled with your cards and
letters congratulating me -and the rest of the cast- on winning the SAG award.
I had a lovely time reading through them all. I can't tell you how much I
appreciate your kind words.
I have commented recently, in several interviews, on the high quality of fans I
seem to attract; the letters are not just of the 'you're so hot, can I have your
picture" variety but contain perceptive and appreciative observations on the
performance. I am constantly astonished and gratified at the tiny nuances and
small moments you pick up on. You make my experience richer, and thank you for
that. I hope to continue giving you things to comment on for many years to come.
We have just completed the season finale of DH, and all I can tell you is that
there are many surprises in store. Some of them are a secret even for me! It's
been a great year, and quite unexpected; last year at this time I was in Oregon
shooting "The Sisters", with no idea I'd be doing "Desperate Housewives". Amazing
what can happen in a year. And maybe I'm foolishly optimistic, but I believe
the best is still to come. Thanks for sticking with me- some of you for almost
ten years!- on this journey.
By the way, I did see "The Sisters" at the Tribeca Festival, and I thought it was
quite good. I can't comment on my own performance, but I will say that some of
the other actors in this movie will knock your socks off (assuming you are wearing
socks at the time). No word on distribution yet, but I'm confident we'll have
some kind of release, if only on the strength of the performances and the
astuteness of the direction.
Thanks to you all once again,
All the best,
Steven Culp"
