Letter from Mr. Culp
May 2006
"Dear friends,
First of all, thank you for all your kindness and support regarding the death of
my sister and her family. It is much appreciated. Some of you have asked where
donations might be made; I would suggest The Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family
Memorial Endowment. (Information on the fund can be found at www.tcfrichmond.org
There is also a terrific retrospective CD of Bryan's music that's available
through plan9music.com and proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the
endowment.
Those of you who have followed the story on line, especially in the Richmond
papers, will have seen how highly regarded the Harvey family were in the
community. They seemed to be able to touch everyone around them in a positive
way. Their deaths are a huge blow that we're all still reeling from. The only
positive thing I can say is that we've all been inspired to follow their example
in our lives. They were truly amazing people.
It seems rather bizarre, really, that life continues to go on, but it does. I
have to say at times like this, it really helps to have children. They make it
pretty much impossible for you to dwell on your sorrows.
So-by now you've heard about "Traveler", the new series I'm doing for ABC. We
have been picked up for mid season (though with no specific time slot yet) and
will begin filming in August. I'm very excited about it. The pilot is terrific,
and it is only the starting point. As usual, I'm sworn to secrecy about plot
developments, but I'm looking forward to following this character on his journey,
which will take off in some surprising ways from where it begins. In fact, I
think it's safe to say that the title of the series is very appropriate, because
all the characters are going to 'travel' some distance. And the cast is terrific,
as are our producers- just a class act all the way around.
In the meantime, "Firehouse Dog" is in post-production, and has been doing very
well with test audiences. Fox is planning to release it mid-January of next year
(though these dates are always subject to change). One of the reasons I wanted
to do this film was that I wanted to work with the director Todd Holland, and I
have to say I was not disappointed. He's just great. Another added bonus was
that I reunited with my "brother" from "Thirteen Days", Bruce Greenwood. We
had fun working together again.
In May I participated in the pacific Playwright's Festival at South Coast Rep.
reading a new play by Keith Reddin called "Human Error". Sorry I wasn't able to
let anyone know about it, but I was shooting the season finale of "Desperate
Housewives" at the same time, and because of the fluctuations in DH's schedule,
we weren't sure until the last moment if I was actually going to be able to do
the reading. But everything worked out, the reading was a blast, and, once again,
it was great to get back on stage. And it was also really lovely to be back on
the set of "Housewives", and to be reminded how much I love working with Marcia
Cross.
Thank you all once again for your continued support. It really means so much
to me.
Wishing you all the best,
Steven Culp."
