Letter from Mr. Culp

October 2005
"Dear Friends, Just a quick update: First, I want to dispel a rumor that has been brought to my attention. I am not doing a horror movie called "Black Christmas". It sounds like the kind of thing I would try to avoid at this point. Some confusion may have resulted from the fact that I did accept a role in an independent production called "Deck the Halls"- a Chritsmas-themed movie, but more in the tradition of "It's A Wonderful Life". I don't want to give away the plot, but the appealing thing about the role to me was that it's pretty much the opposite of Rex Van de Kamp. Don't get me wrong: I love Rex, but especially since "Housewives" was seen by so many people- I've been turning down roles that have struck me as being too similar, at least for the time being. Thank you to all those who came up to San Francisco to see the reading of "The Velvet Sky". It was great to see you, and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I personally had a wonderful week it was great to be able to take time to get back into theatrical venue, and I really enjoyed the people I got to work with. Sorry, it meant I had to miss the FanFest, though. I am shooting a movie this fall called "Firehouse Dog." It's an interesting mix of family comedy, Hollywood satire, and action/suspense. I'm really looking forward to working with the director, Todd Holland, of whom I have been a fan ever since "The Larry Sanders Show." It's also a studio movie, which I have not done for a few years, and, once again, a role that is different from Rex. And it appeals to me to be doing something that my kids will actually be able to watch. As far as TV goes: I have been wanting to follow up Rex with something equally as good but different, and as a result have been saying "no" with sometimes alarming frequency. That's the problem with doing something as good as "Housewives"- the bar has been set pretty high. We'll see what happens... As always, thank you for your continued support. My best to you all. Steven Culp"
