"The White Rose"

Steven played: Schomorell Not much information is available on this play. We do know that it is based on the real life drama of Nazi era Germany. A story of courage, principle and honor. The date was February 22, 1943 when Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie, along with their best friend, Christoph Probst, were executed by Nazi officials. Hans, a medical student at the University of Munich, was 24. Sophie, a student, was 21. Christoph, a medical student, was 22 were guilty of one thing only. Believing that Hitler and the Nazis were enslaving and destroying the German people, and so they stood against their evil regime and against the sending of hundreds of thousands of its citizens to their deaths. The siblings sharing their beliefs and feelings with friends Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell, Willi Graf, and Kurt Huber, published a leaflet entitled "The White Rose". The leaflet called for Germans to "rise up and resist the tyranny of their own government”. Another 6 leaflets followed. Later Alex Schmorell, age 25 ( Steven Culp’s role ) Willi Graf, age 25, and Kurt Huber, age 49, were either executed or sent to concentration camps. The history of the “White Rose” inspired many books, a movie and a play. It’s a story of courage, struggle and freedom of the human spirit. Note on Alexander Schmorell. He was a gifted sculptor, interested in literature and music. He was born in Russia, to a German father, a physician, and a Russian mother. He was consigned to a "Sanitätskompanie," a training school for medics during his compulsory two years in the army. It is said that pointing towards the door of his barracks he said: "Maybe ten years from now there will be a plaque on this door which will read: "This is where the revolution began."
